Gulkpe Naa Palace Fire
THE police in Tamale have mounted an intensive search for two men believed to have masterminded the arson on the Gukpegu-Na’s palace on Friday night.
The two men, known as Hardi and Abotchie, are said to have conspired with a woman, Suweiba Bawa, to commit the crime.
Suweiba was arrested at about 11.4 pm on Friday by some youth when she started the fire which was put out by the young men.
But for the timely intervention of the police, Suweiba would have been lynched by the mob.
Police said that the action was a retaliatory attack following an earlier attempt to burn down the private residence of the newly installed regent of Gushiegu, Yakubu Abdulai, at Vittin in Tamale.
The Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Boniface Abubakari, Saddique, reacting to the developments, asked the people to desist from any criminal acts, warning that anyone caught would be dealt with severely.
