The Nadowli Youth Development Association in collaboration with the Nadowli District Assembly is to institute an annual festival that would bring the sons and daughters of the area together to strategize for development.
Apart from that, the youth have also resolved the protracted chieftaincy disputes that erupted after the death of Alhaji Abudulai Dapilah Dassa II, late paramount chief of the Nadowli traditional area. Mr. Gaeten Kuupuolo, President of the Youth Association, who told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Nadowli said the festival, which is to be known as "Hayangor" would be celebrated soon after the enskinment of a new paramount chief in the traditional area. He said both the Tindamba (Landlords) and the royals have resolved to enskin a paramount chief before the end of the first quarter of the year adding that a comprehensive report on their last meeting would be submitted on January 28, this year. Mr. Kuupuolo said the district had no festival because of the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the area and hoped that with the resolution of the paramount chieftaincy problem, the festival would thrive to serve as a unifying factor that would bring citizens of Nadowli together. Speaking to the GNA, Wing commander (Rtd) Eric Dakurah, Nadowli District Chief Executive said the numerous chieftaincy disputes were inhibiting development and promised to work round the clock to resolve all those disputes to pave way for development in the area. He said the Assembly had awarded two water projects on contract at a total cost of C4.2 billion cedis. Wing Commander said, while a new small water project would be constructed in the Nadowli township, that of the Daffiama water project would be rehabilitated to restore water supply to the people. He said the Assembly would also spend a substantial amount of money on sports development in the District so as to harness the numerous sporting talents in the area. He said the assembly would organize a soccer competition during this year's independence celebrations to select players for a formidable district second division club. The District chief Executive said the Assembly would also give the Nadowli palace a facelift before the enskinment of a new chief. Source:Ghanaweb
