Konkomba Dance Group Innaugurated
One group that excited the audience as they danced to welcome President Kufuor and invited guests to the Commonwealth Sports Awards last year was the Konkomba Cultural Group.
After its inception in January 2001,the 22-member group have had various national performances at high profile programmes including the Sports Journalist and Radio and TV awards.The Konkomba Cultural Group which is made up of dancers, artistes and musicians was inaugurated in Accra at the weekend by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD),Mr Charles Bintin after different splendid performances by the group.
According to Mr John Oti Bless,Organising Secretary,the group would endeavour to foster unity and peace among the people of Konkomba,Dagomba and Gonja who have been in disagreement for some time now by organising entertainment programmes in these areas in vernacular to call for peace.
The group will also organise cultural programmes using vernacular as a medium of exchange to educate and sensitise the youth in the three northern regions about the dangers of promiscuous lifestyles and the effects of HIV/AIDS,he said.
Mr Oti Bless added that the group needed the support of the government to enable them achieve their objectives.
Minister of LGRD,Mr Charles Bintin noted that Konkomba have a rich culture and expressed the hope that the formation of cultural groups would help to unearth and market these rich culture.
Other performers at the inauguration included Moses NB whose song,One People brought many people to the dance floor.
