Mr. Elderd Bolhuis, a Dutch volunteer working with Voluntary Child Aid, an NGO, has donated educational materials worth more than 20 million cedis to the Methodist Primary School at Nyohini in the Tamale Metropolis.
Mr. Bolhuis, who teaches at the school has also sponsored four of the teachers to a teacher training college and financed necessary materials needed for his supplementary class. The donation was through a fund-raising campaign he initiated in his home country to help procure educational materials to enhance teaching and learning in the school.
The items included: first aid kit, exercise books, a cupboard, reading and story books, English dictionaries, copy books, toys, musical instruments and other educational support materials. Mr. Sule Yaro, the Headmaster, thanked Mr. Bolhuis for assisting the school to acquire basic materials to improve the standard of education in the community.
Mr. Bolhuis thanked the chiefs and people for the warm reception accorded him and appealed to parents to send their children to school to learn and advance in life.
The Country Director of Voluntary Child Aid, Mr. Frederick Addai, said the NGO would continue to help deprived communities in the area of education and called on the chiefs to release land to enable his organization to construct a new school complex for the community.
