Youth of Yunyoo in the Bunkprugu/Yunyoo district of the Northern Region have demonstrated against the paramount chief of Yunyoo, Yunyoo-rana Naa Yamyia Tooka II and their Member of Parliament Hon. Joseph Naabu Bipoba.

They have threatened to set the chief’s palace ablaze if a proposed Community Senior High School expected to be built in Yunyoo is relocated to Namong.

They accused the Yunyoo-rana of conniving with the MP to cheat on the majority of his constituents, by diverting development projects to his home village called Namong.

The angry youth insinuated that the Yunyoo Legislator since he was elected has been diverting all development projects to Namong to the neglect of other satellite communities in the constituency.

They have, therefore, vowed to use any available means to resist attempts by Hon. Joseph Naabu Bipoba to change the original plan for the school building.

Assemblyman for Yunyoo electoral area, Mr. Sampoa Timothy in an interview with Citi News confirmed the irate youth's attempt to burn down the Yunyoo chief’s palace during the demonstration.

According to Mr. Timothy, elders of Yunyoo persuaded them to rescind their decision and use dialogue to settle their grievance.

Mr. Timothy who doubles as the Yunyoo constituency NDC Secretary, however, condemned the MP for excluding other satellite communities in the constituency on his development agenda.

He disclosed that the chiefs and opinion leaders of Yunyoo traditional area earlier met and agreed that the proposed Community Senior School project should be located in Yunyoo.

He said the residents of the area got astonished when it was discovered that the MP had changed the original plan and decided to build it at Namong.

Mr. Timothy explained that building the school in Yunyoo will make it accessible to all the ethnic groups in the area.

But, Hon. Joseph Naabu Bipoba in a sharp rebuttal rubbished the allegations and cautioned the youth against attempting to use violence to settle their scores.

The MP said he was unfazed about the youth’s threat saying, “All the allegations they have leveled against me and the Yunyoo-rana are concocted, and the youth of Yunyoo if they could demonstrate against the Yunyoo-rana are they the only youth in the constituency?”
