DCE wants collaboration from residents to develop district

The District Chief Executive for Jirapa in the Upper West Region, Madam Vivien-Nelly Kunko Benongkore has appealed to the chiefs and people of the area to join forces and collaborate with the assembly in order to bring development to the district.
At a durbar organized by the chiefs and people of Duori electoral area in her honour following her appointment as the only female DCE in the region, Madam Vivien Kunko noted that she could not be successful without the support of the chiefs and people especially women in the area.
The durbar was attended by all indigenes of Duori community with the chief of the area, Naa Diedong Dombo, the Paramount chief of the Jirapa traditional area and former Member of Parliament Hon. Bawaana Dakurah.
“My success is your success and my failure is yours, it is therefore incumbent on you to give me the necessary guidance in order to bring smiles to the faces of the people in the district,” she stated.
The newly elected DCE said the task and challenges are enormous but with God and their support they will overcome them without any difficulty.
She pointed out that some of the projects she would be working on to improve the living conditions of the people within the dry season is gardening.
Madam Kunko Benongkore bemoaned the situation where most of the people in the youth bracket drift to the south in search of non-existent jobs during the dry season and promised to rehabilitate some of the dams and dug-out wells in the communities that would make them stay and works after the rains are over.
The DCE also gave the assurance to work towards reducing poverty in the area. The Chief of Duori, Naa Diedong Dombo thanked President Mahama for nominating one of their own which shows the recognition and confidence the government has for women in the country.
Naa Dombo appealed to the government to rehabilitate the poor road network in the area as well as provide them with a Junior High School and new Senior High School in the community, since the community is centrally located in the district.
