The Jirapa District Assembly has sponsored about 26 persons in the district comprising Sanitation Guards and Environmental Health Officers to enable them educate the people in the area to observe personal and environmental hygiene.

This was disclosed in a speech presented at the first ordinary meeting of the assembly at Jirapa by the District Chief Executive Bernard K. Puozuing on Friday.

He expressed dissatisfaction on the level of sanitation in the area indicating that there was the urgent need for residents to avoid the practice of open defecation and adhere to responsible environmental behaviors.

The DCE disclosed that the assembly has made available an amount of GHs 8,000 for the maintenance of water systems to ensure that the people have access to potable water.

He said the assembly has again funded a common mock examination for the entire Junior High School to adequately prepare the pupils in the district with the view of improving the Basic Education Certificate Examination score this year.
