UDS Tamale campus to hold first ever central week celebration

For the first time in history, the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale Campus, will be hosting the Central SRC Week Celebration.

The week long celebration has been hosted by the three other campuses-Nyankpala, Wa and Navrongo- with the 19th slated for the Tamale campus on 22nd - 29th January. It is expected to reunite students in all the branches of the university.

Themed: “Ensuring credible and peaceful 2012 election: the role of the UDS student”, the 2012 celebration is expected to see all the four-legs of the University located at Navrongo, Nyankpala, Wa and Tamale, all in the Northern Region for the commencement of the celebration.

In an interview with the Central SRC President of the UDS, Fred Amese, explained the theme of the year’s week celebration “...this is to enable students to see, know and admit the reason why they must not allow themselves to be used by any political party to satisfy their selfish desires and create perpetual violence among others in the country."

He said dignitaries from the four major political parties; the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Convention People’s Party (CPP), and the People’s National Convention (PNC), the Electoral Commission (EC) and other distinguish personalities both from the region and outside the region have been invited to grace the occasion.

He said activities to be held during the celebration include Debate, sports activities, entertainment night out, floats and an old school reunion which will take a trip to the Kintampo waterfalls in the Brong Ahafo Region.

This, he said would showcase spectacular tourist attraction centers in the region and beyond.

Other activities mentioned were pool party, socialisation night, rap competition, face of UDS with a surety that the winner of the contest would be crowned the ‘Ambassador of Peace’ to preach peace in all educational institutions in the country especially, to the female folks and the youth. There will also be a thanks giving service, he added.
