Two non-governmental organizations (NGOs), 4-H Ghana and the Opportunity Industrialization Centre International (OICI), on Thursday presented start-up tools to 40 selected youth drawn from 10 Districts in the Eastern Region at a ceremony in Koforidua for use in their trading activities.

The presentation was in connection with a project known as “Home Based Care”.

Mr Kwaku Boateng, Director of 4-H Ghana, noted that youth unemployment was a problem in the country and that 4-H Ghana through the Ghana AIDS Commission was implementing the project in the various districts to help orphans and vulnerable children.

He advised the beneficiaries to be humble, obedient and put in much effort to complete their training to become useful citizens in the future.

“Let us take advantage of the opportunity to gain a profession which is going to be a life-long one” he added.

Mr Boateng told the beneficiaries that the tools would be theirs after they had completed the training, and warned that the tools would be taken away from any person who failed to complete the training or showed disrespect to their trainers.

Mr Majid Ayarega, Deputy New Juaben Municipal Coordinating Director, urged the participants not to sell the tools given to them but rather use them in their training to come out successfully.

He noted that being an illiterate did not mean that “the hand and mind could not be used for other things”.

Mr Ayarega said that was the reason why the items were being presented to enable the beneficiaries to stand on their own after training.

Some of the items received included hair dryers, head pans, hammers, measuring tapes, fitting tools, electronic tools, mechanic tools, plumbing tools and sewing machines.
