Contrary to widely held assertion that development is sprawling all over in the districts and the various communities, the same cannot be said of Voggu a community in the Tolon Kumbugu District of the Northern Region.
According to the assemblyman for the area Mumuni Baako, Voggu lacks almost all the basic social amenities making life very difficult in the area.
He stated that education at the basic level is virtually on its knees, teachers, for lack of accommodation always arrive late from their base in Tamale.
“Schools are still being held under trees as not a single school has been built for community for a long period, let alone providing schools in the town with teaching and learning materials,” he stressed.
Mr. Baako also bemoaned the deplorable state of sanitation adding that the absence of places of convenience and refuse dump has left residents with no option than to defecate around and indiscriminately throw refuse about thereby painting a sordid picture of the vicinity.
The situation he said may degenerate into a serious health crisis with devastating consequence if left to persist. The member said, not even the occasional clean up exercise in the community has saved the situation.
As a matter of urgency, he appealed to the assembly to provide bungalows for the teachers, and provide sanitary facilities for the community to give them a new lease of life.
