The East Gonja District Assembly has instituted a “Sanitation Day” as part of efforts to fight poor sanitation in the area.

The move among other things is expected to raise the consciousness of residents within the community on the harmful effect of filth and the need to find appropriate means of disposing it.

In an interview with Ghanadsitricts.com the Presiding Member of the Assembly hinted that the measure is achieving the desired results as people are now creating better ways of disposing off their garbage. The sanitation day which he says falls on the beginning of every month includes all stakeholders who are concerned with development of the area.

He said the assembly has rehabilitated more than 7 public toilets within the Salaga district and is hoping to extend the renovation services to all communities within the district.
