The Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga Municipality, Edward Ayireba Ayaele has noted that though development in the Northern sector is lagging behind, Bolgatanga is receiving a boost with respect to development of the area.
He said in just three months in his appointment as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), there has been a considerable surge in the development of the area.
This came to light in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, on the fall-out from the recent campaign, dubbed “Campaign for Accountable Governance and a search of leadership for Northern Ghana “embarked by the Members of Northern Patriots in Research and advocacy(NORPRA).
The campaign was launched against the backdrop that most Members of Parliament (MPs) both the Majority and the Minority have shirked their responsibility to champion the cause of Northern Ghana and articulate the concerns of the ordinary people in the Northern Region.
However, Mr. Ayireba in contrast to the concerns of NORPRA brought to the fore some of the major social developments that have taken place in his jurisdiction.
He said more than 200 electric poles have been mounted for Electrification spread across Bolgatanga and its environs.
He also claimed that the Municipality has been able to secure 23 boreholes for Bolgatanga and other villages in the area.
In addition the MCE then commended the government for replacing most schools under trees. These were either 6 unit classroom or 3 unit classroom blocks constructed for school children in the area.
The MCE however expressed dissatisfaction with the issue of sanitation and said the area is besieged with sanitation problems. He therefore promised to improve sanitation, as well as implementing moves to enhance education in the Bolgatanga Municipality.
