he Yendi municipality will soon be zoned to enable the municipal assembly vigorously monitor revenue collection and also improve internally generated funds for the assembly.
According to the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive Issah Zakaria the area, very strategic needs a lot of development and with the booming economic activities in Yendi, there is the need to rake in enough income for the running of the assembly’s activities, since the municipal assembly cannot depend solely on the district assembly common fund.
He said upon assumption of office barely eight months ago he realized that internally generated funds for the municipality was low and had to constitute a committee to improve revenue collection; a four month exercise he noted was very successful.
Speaking to ghanadistrict.com, Hon. Issah Zakaria stated that the committee he put in place recommended the transfer of some non performing revenue collectors which he acted on, and realized an improvement in revenue collection.
He also identified property rate as one avenue through which the assembly could generate income but noted that though many residents have the capacity to pay property rates they have refused to do so over the years.
Hon. Issah Zakaria noted that a sensitization campaign is to be rolled out soon to educate and encourage the residents to pay property rates to help in the developmental agenda of the municipality.
