The Savelugu/ Nanton District Assembly has engaged the services of a consultant to pursue and collect taxes from telecommunication companies operating in the district on its behalf to enable it run its affairs effectively.
According to the district, several telecommunication companies have mounted their mast in the area for commercial purposes and are making huge monies at the expense of the district, and it is important that the assembly requires of them to pay taxes to fund its developmental activities.
Speaking to ghanadistricts.com, the Savelugu /NantonDistrict Chief Executive Prince Askia Mohammed stated that revenue mobilization in the district has improved as the assembly currently has gotten about 56% of the targeted revenue to be collected, adding that the assembly is committed to improving it further with the formation of several area task forces.
He noted that each area that is able to mobilize some monies would given 30% percent of the amount they are able to generate from their area for development to serve as motivation to make them continue working effectively.
Hon. Askia Mohammed stated that the assembly with the help of the information services department is embarking on a sensitization campaign to educate and encourage the residents on the need to pay taxes as the assembly cannot depend solely on the district assembly common fund.
