Fire
A celebrant at this year’s Fire festival in the Northern regional capital is dead after stabbing himself.

The deceased, identified only as Alhassan, allegedly stabbed himself to test his magical powers. However he bled to death when he failed in his attempts. Northern regional correspondent Mahama Shaibu said it was part of the Bugum festival for residents to pacify the gods and test their magical prowess.

According to him, the anniversary was largely peaceful until the last minute when casualty figures began to rise.

He said a twenty year old man was shot in Tamale by unidentified persons leaving him with severe wounds.

At the hospital where the victim of the gun shot was sent, authorities comfirmed the death of Alhassan, who bled to death after stabbing himself to test his magical prowess.

He was 35.
