Hundreds of Kusasis living in the Greater Accra, Upper East and Ashanti Regions, on Monday September 20, besieged the Police Hospital Morgue in Accra in protest against the killing of their relative by police who mistook him for an armed robber.

According to Citi News reporter Martin Asiedu Dartey, tensions were high at the morgue and could have escalated into an unpleasant situation if the police had not taken steps to calm down nerves.

The kusasis, numbering about 300 came from Bawku, Kumasi, Tema, Ashaiman and the Accra Metropolis, demanded explanations from the police after identifying the body of the deceased as one of their own.

According to them, their brother who was gunned down on Friday September 17, around the Ashaiman under bridge area, was not a robber and had no arm on him at the time he was shot.

A Brother to the deceased Lukhman Awudu Akologo, told Citi News that on the day of the incident, they were eating together when the deceased, Mohammed Akologo, had a call that he was being sought for, only for the police to gun him down on his motorbike.

Mr. Lukhman Awudu Akologo told Citi News he suspects his brother’s death could have been masterminded by some Mamprusis, who are their rivals.

They have thus asked the police to investigate the matter thoroughly else they would take the law into their own hands.

"We suspect foul play so we expect the police to investigate very well because we dont want to take the law into our own hands".

The angry Kusasis mostly the youth, who travelled in huge buses to the Police Hospital, were led by some Kusasi chiefs from Ashaiman and Tema.

The Police who are yet to speak to the issue insist that the deceased is a suspected robber.
