The following is the full text of the deskinment letter.

GROSS DISRESPECT FOR THE KING OF GONJA AND THE ENTIRE MEMBERS OF THE GONJA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL BY BUIPEWURA JIANPOR II ABDULAI MAHAMA

On the 3rd day sitting of the 1st Ordinary Meeting of the Gonjaland Traditional Council today 13th May, 2010 at Damongo one of the items on the agenda happened to be a case between the Buipewura and Monowura Akwasi Piesie in which Buipewura arbitrarily deskinned Monowura with the excuse that he never supported he the Buipewura when he was involved in Buipe skin affairs.

Secondly, when he became the Buipewura, Monowura refused to pay him homage as this made Buipewura to deskin him.

The King of Gonja intervened for forgiveness for Monowura and Buipewura did not take kind to the King’s advice.

Thirdly, the Wasipewura paramount Chief of the Wasipe Traditional Area made a follow up on the same issue for forgiveness which he (Buipewura) again refused.

Four paramount chiefs (Wasipewura, Bolewura, Choriwura and Busunuwura) made a follow up on the same issue for forgiveness but to no avail.

After these interventions proved futile, the matter was brought before the entire council members for a settlement which he (Buipewura) refused to cooperate.

All efforts to make him co-operate failed instead he disregarded the President and the entire Traditional Council members with insults.

Any member who tried to advise him met his provocation with insults.

Finally, the meeting came to an abrupt end because he (Buipewura) pulled out a pistol from his pocket and his aide also cocked a gun as a result, the crowd was scared. In fear, the King was escorted to his palace and all the chiefs left the meeting grounds. The disappointed youth who were present booed at him and he sped off.

In view of the arrogance and disrespect for the King and the Gonja Traditional Council as well as citizens of Gonjaland: we the undersigned members in consultation with the King have resolved that he (Buipewura) should be removed from his chiefship as Buipewura with immediate effect because the entire council members have lost confidence in him due to his uncompromising attitude.

Signatories to this letter are the aforementioned chiefs and copies have been made available to office of the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, all security Commanders in the region, the regional Registrar of the regional House of Chiefs, the Registrar of the National House of chiefs as well as all Members of Parliament of Gonjaland and other relevant bodies.

At the time of filing this report, the deskinned chief Abdulai Jinapor Mahama II was spotted at the Northern Regional Minister’s office and Citi News gathered that he had made such similar moves in the day to beg for forgiveness.
