Ya-Na murder: Abudus challenge basis for trial of its members
The Abudu family is challenging the basis for the prosecution of some of its members who are on trial for the murder of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II.
They have also queried the sincerity of the NDC Government in finding the truth as it relates the murder of the Ya-Na to the Abudus. The Abudus have also said they are baffled as to why the Andanis are not part of the current arrest and trial of the late Ya-Na.
Some nine suspects were arrested and remanded in police custody in connection with the murder of the overlord of the Dagbon Traditional Area, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II.
Quoting copiously from the Wuako Commission’s report, the family described the current trial of their kinsmen as a “Sham”.
At a Press Conference on Monday May 17, the Abudus said the report which they believe to be the bases for the current trial also named some Andanis.
They particularly mentioned Lawyer Ibrahim Mahama and the regent of Tamale as some Andanis who were equally indicted by the Wuako commission for their complexity in the murder of the late Ya - Na.
They bemoaned why such persons are not currently under the scrutiny of the lenses of the security services.
Dr. Ziblim Iddi Baari, Spokesperson for the Abudus however, pledged their commitment to unravel the truth behind the murder of the Ya-Na and bring justice to the Dagbon area. They expressed hope that the Abudu family will be vindicated at the end of the investigations.
They also stated in very strong terms their opposition to the government’s handling of the issue.
“It is crystal clear that what is going on today is the implementation of NDC manifesto masquerading as a criminal trial.
The Abudu royal family will continue to cooperate with any serious and credible investigations into the event of March 25 to 27 2002. We are convinced that the truth will come out in the pending trial of the ten
suspects”. Dr. Ziblim said.
