The Rector of the Tamale Polytechnic (T-poly), has called on polytechnics to work towards enhancing the quality of the training they provide.

According to Dr Yakubu Seidu Peligah, the job industry was increasingly becoming competitive and therefore, graduates from polytechnics needed to be fully baked to enable them to prove their worth on the job market. Dr Peligah made the call when he inaugurated a Quality Assurance Unit for the polytechnic, which has the mandate to promote quality service delivery in the polytechnic.

The unit would work towards promoting quality in areas such as student admissions, human resource, library facilities, lecturer conduct and customer care.

A 17-member quality assurance committee was inducted alongside to run the unit, whiles Mr Theophilus Nuodia was confirmed as the Quality Assurance Manager.

The rector said the polytechnics were established to supply the country with the requisite middle-level human resource and thus, he saw no reason why polytechnic graduates would lose such job offerings to candidates with other qualifications.

“Our graduates are supposed to be the manpower moving the nation and this we cannot achieve without rendering quality tuition and related training,” he stressed.

“We need to forge more partnerships with the industry players to know the dynamics of their human resource demands so that we can continuously position ourselves to train and provide these personnel,” Dr Peligah said.

He noted that ensuring quality service was very critical to the success of the polytechnic and should be the concern of management, students and everybody in the institution.

The Quality Assurance Manager thanked the Polytechnic Governing Council and the office of the rector for making the Quality Assurance unit a dream come true.

He said even though the unit was responsible for ensuring quality in all sectors of the institution, the unit alone could not do everything.

“Instead, the unit was formed to play a co-ordinating function that was embedded in the overall strategic plan of the polytechnic,” Mr Nuodia said.
