Teachers take advantage of students

Days of painstaking investigations by GOR from the campus of the Karaga Senior High School (SHS) in the Northern Region have uncovered a web of serious romantic relationships between teaching staff and students of the school.

This follows reports that some male tutors of the only Senior High School in the district were taking undue advantage of the innocent female students as bedmates.

The practice almost caught the Assistant Headmaster of the school, Mr Tahiru Yakubu Justice in a mob attack on the request that he clears the air about certain allegations concerning his affair with some female students.

Some natives from the town who spoke to GO have also expressed their dismay about what is happening in the school. They also expressed their shock at the abysmal performance of their wards whom all school organised examination had shown that they were doing well but recorded poor results at last year’s WASSE. The angry natives have threatened to close down the school next term if the said problem is not addressed.

They have also revealed their plans to arrange such masters before the chief, strip and sent them out of the area. One of the students, who want to remain anonymous, told GO that the master-student amorous practice has created serious rivalry among female students of the school.

“The rivalry among female students has grown to the extent that final year female students who the tutors had ‘serviced’ for the past three years are having problems with freshers who they believe are occupying their positions now,” he noted.

After getting the complains from some concern students, GO Northern Regional reporter, Yahaya Kelvin Rashid, went under cover for four days in his investigations and stayed at the boys dormitory and lived there as a student.

One of the major revelations that came up was that the students instead of going for studies were rather seen either hanging out with teachers on campus or were having fun outside the school.

Again during examination time, teachers involved in the illicit affairs write the examination for their various girl friends. This is done under the pretext that they are collecting answer sheets from students as invigilators and then insert the already answered papers and hand over their original answer sheets to them as spoiled sheets.

Female students who have teacher lovers enjoy privileges such as being thought during exams, exempted from punishment and moving out of campus without permission.

“We also have problems with some masters who asked us to love them and we refused,” alleged some of the girls who spoke to GO. When asked whether they have made any attempt to report the matter to the school authorities they said they were afraid of being victimized.

Several attempts to get in touch with the Headmaster, Assistant Headmaster and the Karaga District Director of Education have proved futile.
