The two feuding factions at the centre of the Yendi chieftaincy dispute are inching towards reconciliation.

At a meeting of traditional leaders and the Yendi district police command, John Ferguson Dzineku, leaders of both the Andani and Abudu gates, the two lines of the Dagbon skin made their peace.

The reconciliation is being billed as the beginning of the end of the Dagbon conflict.

The two gates have been at each other’s throat for 17 years.

A traditional authority in Yendi, Zonlana Mahamadu Salifu and Zoha Gbonlana Alhaji Baaba Iddris of the Abudu gate made peace at a reconciliation meeting at the Zohana Palace in Yendi.

These two warring ladies epitomize the state of animosity between the Abudu and Andani factions within which the Dagbon skin rotate.

Both sides have been at loggerheads in the last couple of decade. But the situation got worse some three years ago after the murder of the overlord of Dagbon Ya Na Yakubu Andani and 40 others in a chieftaincy crisis at Yendi.

Attempts to bury the King and install a regent to succeed him have ended in a stalemate.
