District gets infrastructure boost under NORPRED

he East Mamprusi District in the Norther Region is to benefit from projects under the Northern Region Poverty Reduction Programme (NORPRED).

The Assembly has been allocated US$131,793.00 to this effect to construct teachers’ quarters at Jawani, butchers’ shop at Gbintri and corn mill at Gambaga Witches Camp.

The rest of the projects are construction of 3-unit classroom block and 2-unit KG classroom block with office, store, KVIP with urinal at Nalerigu D/A Primary School and Zarantinga respectively.

The District Chief Executive who diaclosed this in a meeting with assembly members said work would start in earnest as soon contracts are awarded after tender.

In another development, the DCE announced that an amount of GH¢78,000.00 has been made available under the Community Base Rural Development Programme (CBRDP) for the construction of 3-unit classroom block for the Health Assistants’ Training School (HATS) in Nalerigu, rehabilitation of Zambulugu Primary School and Nalerigu market, part of which waas ripped off by rainstorm.

Additionally, three pilot Area Councils have been allocated GH¢15,000.00 to execute their own projects.

They are Sakogu Area Council-footbridge, Langbisi Area Council-nurses’ quarters and Gbintri Area Council-teachers’ quarters.

Aculvert is also being constructed on the Bowku-Burugu-Dimia road under the programme.

However, a number of projects started in 2007 and 2008 under the European Union Micro Projects (EU Micro Projects) have been completed.

The infrastructures include a 3-unit classroom blocks at Zandua and Sumniboma, CHIPS compound at Samni, vault chamber toilet at Sakogu and culvert at Namenbowku.

The rest include 3-unit classroom block at Gambaga and Sakogu, while the CHIPS compound at Tuni has been plastered leaving the fixing of doors, windows and painting.
