In his quest to address the problem of youth migration to the south for non-existent jobs, the Paramount Chief of the Bolgatanga Traditional Area, Naba Martin Adongo Abilba III, has appealed to Vodafone Ghana, to offer job opportunities to the youth in his traditional area.

Naba, who stressed the need for employment opportunities for the female youth also, observed that when the campany employs the youth in the area, it would not only curb the surging rural-urban migration, but would also help reduce poverty.

The Chief made the call when a group of Vodafone staff, led by Gordon Wellu, Regional Cooperate Affairs Officer of the company, presented a real cheque of GH¢3,000 to him at his palace in Bolgatanga.

It could be recalled that about a month ago, the Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Mr. David Venn, presented a dummy cheque of GH¢3,000 to the Paramount Chief when he paid a courtesy call on him.

The money was meant for the educational fund set up by Naba Abilba III.

The Chief bemoaned the poor level of education in the area, and expressed the need for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to ensure that this poor level of education was improved to enhance the pace of development.

He thanked the company for the gesture, and promised that the money would be used for its intended purpose, which was to support brilliant but needy students in his traditional area.

The group from Vodafone Ghana said the presentation was part of the company’s contribution towards the development of the country, and pledged Vodafone’s continual support for the development of the North.
