THE UPPER East Regional executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been accused of not living up to expectation, and have subsequently been asked to step aside with immediate effect.

A former Nabdam constituency chairman of the party and a leading activist in the region, Mr. Yaw Mort, who made the accusation, said party members have lost total confidence in the regional executives.

In a release signed by Mr. Mort, he said the executive failed to keep the party together since the last presidential and parliamentary primaries that preceded the 2008 general elections due to their lack of vision, leadership and strategy for the party in the region, and for exhibiting a high level of greed, self-centeredness and lack of transparency in the application of party resources during the 2008 elections.

The executives have also been accused of failure to coordinate, monitor and evaluate the activities of party functionaries and foot soldiers within the various constituencies before, during and after the last election, failure or refusal on their part to motivate foot soldiers adequately during the 2008 campaign season, and their inability to set up a counter intelligence machinery to monitor and check the secrete and diabolical activities of some opposition elements during and after the elections.

The rest of the accusations were the adoption of a “skirt and blouse” campaign strategy against some parliamentary candidates in the region, keeping the Regional Secretariat of the party continuously closed for 24 hours since the declaration of the 2008 election results, and their refusal or inability to regroup and appreciate the various stakeholders of the party, such as party elders and foot soldiers in the various constituencies, after the defeat of the party.

All attempts by this reporter to contact the regional chairman or any of the regional executives were unsuccessful, as their phones were either switched off or out of reach. When he also visited the regional party office, there was no one to speak to.
