Traditional council holds meeting

The Gonja Traditional Council has held its annual general meeting at Salaga. In an address the King of Gonja and President of the Gonja Traditional Council Yagbonwura Bawa Abudu Doshie, said the purpose of the meeting is to assess their achievements and failures for the past year and also as chiefs, to assist the country move forward.

He commended the chiefs for the effective role they played for peace to prevail in Gonjaland during and after the general elections last year and urged them to continue to maintain the peace the people are enjoying in the area.


He appealed to the government to rehabilitate most of the roads in the Gonja area which are in a deplorable state adding that more feeder roads should be constructed in the area to enable farmers to bring their foodstuffs to the markets.

The Yagbonwura also appealed to the government to see to it that the construction of the Fufulso Junction-Sawla road begins. He said work on the road has not started since the sod for its construction was cut some time ago and that the contractors cannot even be traced.

He reminded the chiefs that the ban on charcoal burning in the area to save the environment is still in force and called on them to enforce it in the communities.

In a welcome address, the Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area, Kpembewura Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna Kibessibi called for peace and Unity in the are a, adding that they should learn to tolerate each other’s views and opinions.
