The Northern Ecumenical Forum, a peace promotion body, comprising Christians and Muslims in Tamale, has initiated a road map to support individuals and organizations seeking peace and security in the Northern Region.

The Catholic Archbishop of Tamale, Most Reverend Gregory Kpiebaya, chairman of the Forum, announced this when members met with Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, the Northern Regional Minister, in Tamale on Tue following the recent clashes at Tamale and Gushiegu in the region.

The Catholic Archbishop of Tamale said the Forum would plan a peace march to sensitise the people on the significance of peace to national development.

He said the body would also organise special fasting and prayers for Christians and Muslims for violence-free elections in December, condemn acts of violence and persuade political leaders and their supporters to desist from illegal possession of arms.

Alhaji Idris commended the Forum for its peace efforts and called on politicians, chiefs, and religious leaders to support all such missions in
the region.

He said “the welfare of the people is at the centre of our common
agenda and this can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and security”.

Alhaji Idris advised the people to ensure peace and stability and take advantage of the springing up of banks in the region and expand their economic activities.

He said “A lot of investors, especially those in the banking sector, are focusing on this region because of its potential and we stand to benefit from the fruits of their economic activities if we allow them to operate in an atmosphere of peace and security.”

Alhaji Idris urged the people to adopt rule of law and dialogue in resolving their differences instead of resorting to violence.

The Forum urged chiefs and other opinion leaders to ensure peace and harmony for the development of the region.
