The Minister for the Interior, Hon. (DR.) Kwame Addo-Kufuor, yesterday disclosed that the curfew imposed on the Bawku Municipality and Gushegu Township and their environs has been extended for another week starting from 8th September 2008.
In a press statement, he stated that “The curfew hours remains unchanged and are from 10.00pm-4.00am in respect of Bawku Municipality and its environs and 7.00pm to 5.00am for the Gushegu Township each day.”
This declaration, he said, was by an Executive Instrument and on advice of the Upper East and Northern Regional Security Councils (REGSEC).
He used the opportunity to resound governments’ position on arms possession stating “There is a ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipal Area, Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoosi and Gushegu townships and their environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapon” adding that any person found with any of the above would be arrested and prosecuted.
Government, he intimated was appealing to all people in the area to use this holy Ramadan month to exercise maximum restraint and reflect on the need to live together in peace in order to ensure a peaceful society and country.
