eport reaching The Chronicle indicates that one Dramani Jinapor Mahama, a blood brother of the recently installed Paramount Chief of Buipe, Salamawura Mahama Abdulai (Jinapor) has been shot dead in a renewed clash in the area.

According to the information, the deceased, who was sent by the Paramount Chief to lead a team of revenue collectors to the Buipe Market, was allegedly ambushed and “murdered in cold blood”, by a group believed to be members of one of the chieftaincy gates. It is a norm for the chief to solicit for funds from people who patronise the Buipe Market on every market day to support development of the area.

However, the attack and subsequent death of Dramani Jinapor, allegedly brought about an intense exchange of gunfires between the sympathisers of the deceased and the attackers.

The Bupei Police moved to the market to save the situation, but they got there too late to save Dramani Jinapor. It took the Police several hours to disperse the crowd who had gathered at the scene of the tragic event.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Gonja , Yakubu Zakaria confirmed the report in an interview with The Chronicle. The DCE, who was in Tamale for some official duties at the time the incident occurred said a member of the District Security Committee (DISEC) hinted him.

All efforts to get in touch with the Northern Regional Police Commander, Cop. Oko Brakatu proved futile. The DCE, however, told the paper that the Police in the area had been able to arrest some suspects to help in their investigations.

He said that there is still an uneasy calm in Bupei and assured the people of reinforcement from the Regional Police Command.

There has been a long-standing dispute between the Jinapor and Lebupei royal gates over the Bupei Skin. The matter was adjudicated at the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, where the Jinapor Gate was declared the legitimate occupant of the skin.

The House of Chiefs’ ruling, which apparently did not go down well with the other feuding gate, is believed to have degenerated into this latest incident.

There is still some level of tension in the area, which requires intensive security presence to avert any further clashes.
