Residents in the Savelugu-Nanton District in the Northern Region receive assistance to register for the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme is a laudable idea yet many people still need some sort of intervention to be able to register in order to benefit.

About 634 people under the NHIS were sponsored by two philanthropists in the district. Work Mission Ghana, an NGO registered 283 people while an individual by name Karma Crace registered 351people.

DANIDA has also supported the scheme with GH¢3100.

The District Scheme Manager, Zakaria Sharijey said over 50 ,000 people have so far registered while 49,069 have been issued with ID cards.

He appeal to government to increase the staff of the scheme, in order to handle the increasing number of members. "There is also an urgent need for more sensitization activities, so as to get more people involved " he added.
