Boniface Saddique
he minister for Water Resources Works and Housing, Alhaji Boniface Saddique last weekend proved that he is indeed popular in the Salaga constituency. He polled a record 107 votes to beat his main challenger, Alhaji Issah Danjumah, who got only 9 votes during the constituency primary held at Salaga.

The election, which was supervised by the NPP Northern Regional Executives and conducted by the Salaga District Electoral Commission (EC) was peaceful and transparent.

However, Alhaji Issah Danjumah, who conceded defeat at the end of the election in an early interview with a section of the media, also accused the Salaga NPP Constituency Executives of open campaign for the incumbent MP. He accused the executive members of using the party’s resources such as vehicles to the advantage of Hon. Boniface. He also charged them of bloating the constituency register in favour of the MP.

According to Alhaji Danjumah, he was highly intimidated, harassed and suppressed by the executives at the instructions of Alhaji Boniface.

He also complained that about 95% of the delegates were camped by the MP and some of the executives in their private homes and attempts by his campaign team to interact with them were prevented.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Saddique Boniface, in an interview with The Chronicle described the assertions as false and unfortunate. The MP, who swore by the Holy Qu’ran, said he had never in any way induced the delegates or camped them in his residence.

According to him, he believed in the principles and ideologies of the NPP and had full respect for the rule of law and democracy and would thus not do anything that would have marred the beauty of the election.

Alhaji Boniface noted that his overwhelming victory meant that he was the choice of the people and pledged to work hard to merit the trust reposed in him by the delegates. The Minister was very confidence of retaining the Salaga seat for the NPP in the next elections. Alhaji Boniface, however, commended Alhaji Issah Danjumah for conceding defeat and also throwing his weight behind him.

The Acting Northern Regional Secretary of the party, Mr. Faisal Gbangili commended the constituency executives, polling station officials, party supporters and the aspirants for conducting themselves peacefully to ensure a successful election. He was hopeful that Alhaji Boniface would once again win the Salaga seat for the NPP and called on all the members to join his campaign.
