Coming events they say, cast their shadows but the same cannot be said about the Dagbon conflict as one cannot predict the next line of action members of the two feuding factions in the conflict would take.

Following the stalements over the burial of the late Ya Na Yakubu Andani II, the King of Dagbon, which was scheduled for last Monday, there is a clear indication that if members of the two families do not back down on their demands it would be very difficult to see peace returning to Dagbon in the near future.

The latest attempt at solving the problem at a meeting between the two factions at Manhyia palace last Tuesday again ended in deadlock as both factions did not want to make any concessions that would lead to peace in Dagbon. But in the face of the stalemate and controversy over the burial of the late Ya Na, there seems to be a proposal that may be accepted by both the Andanis and the Abudus in their forward march towards the burial and the installation of the regent of Dagbon.

The proposal, which came from Major Sulemana, the Regent of Tolon and an Abudu, urged the Nayiri to invite the two families to the graveyard of the late Naa Gbewaa, the founder of Dagbon to swear to uphold the customs and traditions of Dagbon. He said the swearing would be taken as a commitment by members of the two families to respect the traditions and customs of Dagbon.

This move, Major Sulemana said, would also help eliminate the suspicion among the two clans. He explained to the committee of Eminent Chiefs led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that the cause of the conflict was the strong suspicion and mistrust on both sides. He added that currently there is suspicion on the part of the Andanis that if they allow the Abudus to perform the funeral rites of the lat Ya Na Mohamadu Abdulai, the Abudus would capture the skin and would subsequently prevent the Andanis from having access to it in future.

The Abudus, according to the Tolon Regent, are also suspicions of the fact that should they allow the Andanis to go ahead to perform the funeral rites of the late Ya Na Yakubu Andani, the Andanis would also capture the Dagbon skin and use it against the Abudus, thereby preventing them to have access to their skin based on the system of rotation authorized by a Supreme Court ruling. "Let the Nayiri invite all the families to swear on the grave of the late Na Gbewaa's grave that we will all uphold, respect and allow the tradition of Dagbon to prevail," he urged.
