The Chiefs and people of all the Sissala speaking communities in the Upper West Region have expressed their gratitude to His Excellency President John Agyekum Kufour for creating a number of districts for them to commensurate their population in the region.

They said the creation of Sissala West, Wa East and recently Lambussie districts in addition to the already existing Sissala East district would forever be remembered.

This commendation came when the National Sissala Union held a grand conference at Lambussie in the newly created Lambussie District to find out ways of bringing the Sissalas together to chart a common course of development since they are people with common ancestoral lineage.

The programme which was chaired by Professor Benning of the University of Ghana was attended by prominent personalities in and around the Sissala areas and included the chief of the Lambussie traditional area,Kuoro Bammieh, the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister Mrs. Winifred Diyaka, Hon. Alice Boon,Hon. Bayirga Haruna and Hon. Mosses Dani-Baah MPs for Lambussie,Sissala West and East constituencies respectively.

Addressing the gathering, the MP for Sissala West, Hon. Bayirga Haruna pleaded with the government to do a lot of consultation especially with chiefs in the selection of District Chief Executives (DCEs) to head the districts since appointing wrong people to head the districts would have the tendency of bringing problems in the area.

He further called for renaming of all the districts in the Sissala areas to reflect their true geographical location with a suggestion that the newly created Lambussie District be called "Sissala West" while the present Sissala West is changed to "Sissala Central".Again the Wa East district which is occupied by Sissalas be changed to "Sissala North" while Sissala East with its capital at Tumu remains the same, a view which was later repeated by all the speakers at the forum.

On politics, he admonished his colleague politicians in the area to be supportive of one another and urged them to eschew what he refered to as "Pull Him Down" tactics.

Hon. Mosses Dani- Baah also expressed his happiness over the creation of the four Sissala districts and said the credit must go to President Kufour for making that possible. He advised the people to adopt proper town planning techniques in all the created district capitals in order not to repeat the haphazard building plans in Tumu , the Sissala East capital.

On her part, Hon. Alice Boon called for promotion of education especially girl- child education if the development of the area was to be taken serious. The Deputy Regional Minister also promised to do her best to carry all the concerns raised to the appropriate quarters for prompt attention.

To put all the issues raised into fruition an eleven-member committee chaired by one Adams Allando was put in place to help restructure the Sissala Union to encompass the entire Sissala areas.
