Northern Regional Minister
The Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris has observed that, the study of science and ICT would help enhance the knowledge base of students to go into research that would help solve some of the teething problems crippling the country’s economy. He thus urged students to take the study of science and ICT serious.
This he said rests in the fact that the current Educational Reforms makes specific puts emphasis on the role of Science and Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the survival of every learning institution.
Alhaji Mustapha Ali said this in a speech read on his behalf at the 10TH Anniversary and Speech and Prize Giving Day of the Tamale Islamic Senior High School (TISSEC).
He maintained that, the learning of ICT was crucial to accelerate the development of this country since it would help students identify ways of refining and recycling raw materials for the manufacturing of other economic products.
The Minister also encouraged the students to live by the principles of the Holy Qu’ran and be obedient to teachers, leaders and parents in order to achieve the good results they wish for themselves.
In his welcome address, the Headmaster of TISSEC Iddrisu Nindow highlighted on some of the challenges facing the school which he said were crippling the performance of students and staff. Some of the problems he enumerated include lack of dinning hall, a decent administration block, staff accommodation and acute water shortage.
Others include the issue of the lack of a school bus, indiscipline among students and textbooks for the school’s library. Mr. Nindow therefore called on government and the GETFUND to extend support to the school to enable it compete with the well endowed schools in the country.
