The Smooth take-off of the newly created Chereponi district in the northern region would depend mainly on the quick provision of good roads, water/sanitation, educational facilities and electricity in the area, the District Chief Executive for Saboba-Chereponi District Assembly, Hon. Azumah Namoro Sanda has said.

According to him apart from Saboba-Chereponi and Yendi-Chereponi roads which were terribly bad, there were other major towns like Gerenkruka, Wenchiki and Nanbire which needed to be connected to the district capital, Chereponi, with good roads for the transportation of goods and services. Communities across the River Oti also needed attention of the government.

The Saboba-Chereponi district is believed to be one of the largest districts in the northern region in terms of landmark, with a population of about 1,010,000 people with Chereponi being the more populated area. This has made it very difficult to manage according to the DCE. Speaking in a telephone interview with this reporter, Mr... Sanda expressed his gratitude to the president for considering the area for a new district after several years of struggle by the people of the area for a separate district. He hoped this would boost development in the area. He said the district would now have separate budget to carryout projects.

Mr. Sanda disclosed that the Electricity Company of Ghana has already sent electricity to the place, tested it and would soon commission it. On communication, he said MTN has extended its service to the area with TIGO to follow soon.
