The Member of Parliament for Salaga who is also the Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Boniface Abubakar Saddique, has asked members of the Abudu and Andani clans to learn to accept the truth about their culture and tradition, be tolerant with each other and live together in reconciliation.
Mr. Saddique told PeaceFM today that the leaders of the two families are very much aware of their tradition and should be able to come out clearly to tell Ghanaians what their culture states on the burial of a late king.
Last week the committee of three eminent chiefs announced that all was set for the burial ceremony of the late Ya-Nana Yakubu Andani II to be held today. This event was however shelved at the last minute when leaders of the two families failed to agree over the appointment of a regent before the burial ceremony.
The Andani’s insist that the regent should be chosen before the late king is buried. The Abudu’s however rejected this notion, saying that this was not the first time a late king was going to be buried while a regent was not appointed. Secretary to the Abudu clan, Majeed Bawa in an interview with PeaceFM accused the leaders of the Andani clan for refusing to compromise their position in the interest of peace.
Spokesperson for the Andani clan, Dr. Yahuza Gomda also accused the committee of three eminent chiefs of taking a stand that could distort the tradition of the Dagbon Traditional Council, which has existed for over 700 years. He said the committee should go strictly to the Dagbon tradition if it really has the situation of Dagbon at heart.
Meanwhile secretary to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Mr. Owusu Boateng has expressed the hope that the Dagbon crisis could be resolved without much difficulty. According to him the solution to the Dagbon crisis is not too difficult as it has been perceived by some people.
