The European Union has constructed 3-Unit 4 Classroom blocks and 2 teachers’ quarters in the some communities in the Sissala East District, including the District capital Tumu, to cater for the infrastructural problem that has bedeviled the district.
The need for additional infrastructure including school blocks and furniture became necessary as a result of the introduction of government programmes such as the School Feeding and the Capitation Grant which have brought about a tremendous increase in enrollment in the district.
The Presiding Member for the assembly, Hon. Godfred B. Kanton who made this known in an interview with www.ghanadistricts.com said the erection of the Jubilee Schools for pre-school children has also come as a huge relief for the education directorate.
He said the cordial relationship that exists between the district assembly and the district education directorate has reflected remarkably in the improvement of education in the district.
The Presiding Member said the directorate has come out with an external mock examination for all the Junior High Schools in the District and also instituted an award scheme for teachers, all aimed at the enhancing education in the district.
According to him the impact of the introduction of the school feeding programme is not as phenomenal as one would expect as only 3 schools in the district benefit from the programme.
Hon. Kanton therefore appealed to managers of the programme to expedite their move to extending it to as many schools as possible to entice the children who are still reluctant to go to school.
