Mohammed Amin Adam, the Municipal Chief Executive of Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has urged all and sundry, especially corporate bodies not to ignore the Northern region when donating to flood victims. He said this when he received a cheque for 20 million cedis and 50 bags of rice on behalf of NADMO for flood victims in the Northern region.
The donation was made by Alu –Africa Company Limited, manufacturers of Galvanized and Zinc alum leak free roofing system.
Mr Amin Adam complained that about ninety percent of the donations made so far had been sent to the Upper West and East regions with little going to the Northern region.
He added: “There are poor people living in the urban communities in the north too.”
He said the depth of destruction in the region is very enormous but “Its looks like all attention is on Upper West and Upper East”
He therefore called for a marshal development plan for all the three northern regions.
Mohammed Amin Adam called on development partners to help develop the three northern regions in terms of infrastructure since the northern part of the country is the fastest growing region in West Africa.
The TMA boss appealed to the government to give a sustainable amount of support in uplifting the standard of the people in the north.
Answering a question on why there has been some delay in distributing of items for flood victims, he explained that the distribution process was slow because appropriate data has to be taken so that the right people get the items.
Nii Ayitey Aryee, Marketing Manager of Alu Africa Company Ltd. stated that the donation forms part of the social responsibility of the company and called on other corporate bodies to help the people in the north.
