The Mayor of Tamale, Mohammed Adam Amin Anta, has reiterated the preparedness of the Assembly and other stakeholders in making the Tamale metropolis the strategic centre for investment in the West African Sub-region. He said, the assembly has embarked on projects to develop the Metropolis as a befitting city to attract both local and foreign investments.

Briefing the Press in Tamale on his arrival after leading a 5 member delegation to Louisville, Kentucky in the USA, Mr Amin Anta, said they learnt a lot in Louisville and have adopted strategies to develop Tamale into a top standard city within the country.

He said the main reason for the visit was to explore the idea of co-operation between Tamale and Louisville and also to consolidate the relationship between the two cities which started as far back as in 1979.

Mr Amin revealed that, the delegation among other things held discussions on waste management, tourism, capacity building, health, housing development, investment opportunities.

He said, the waste management department in Louisville has agreed to establish a plant that will process methane from solid waste to provide power and will support the Tamale Metro Assembly with waste material and equipment to improve and control waste.

He revealed that, the mayor of Louisville, Jerry E Abramson, donated a refuse truck, street sweeper, computers and TV sets, which will be flown by the US Army to Tamale to augment the waste management equipment and aid schools in the metropolis.

He added that, the Mayor has also agreed to assist in designing a strategic plan for Tamale which will set out the development goals as well as prioritize the means necessary to meet the set objectives. "The plan will become a central blue print for investment attractions especially from the International market".

The Mayor announced that, the Department of Neighbourhood in Louisville also agreed to train and build capacities for Assembly Members and Community leaders to improve on the debating and deliberative skills of the members for effective governance.

As part of the discussions, Louisville city will build an "Airport City Housing" in Tamale to attract residents around and in the diaspora.

On Education linkages, some high schools and elementary established links with schools in Tamale, including, Brow high school between Tishigu Anglican Cluster of schools and Business Secondary School, Fosters Academy between Dahinsheli School and Moore High School between Ghana High School.

The already existing collaboration between the Tamale Polytechnic and the Jefferson Community and Technical College was taken to another level.

"It became apparent that the relationship between the two colleges needed a review to include exchanges beyond the technical areas of studies such as nursing. Exchanging between administrators, faculty members and students were also agreed".

He hinted that Whayne Supplies, the main supplier of caterpillar equipment in the US also decided to make Tamale Polytechnic its West African Mechanical Centre.

Mr Amin Anta announced that, as part of the CAN 2008 tournament in Tamale, the assembly will hold a trade fair on craft to exploit the potential of the Metropolis and create market for the people in the craft business.

He however urged the people of the Tamale cooperate with the Assembly to bring more development into the area.
