Dagbon Congress Appeals to Political Parties

THE Dagbon Consultative Congress has appealed to political parties and members of the two gates in Dagbon not to do anything that will further worsen the crisis.

It said Ya Na was the undisputed overload of Dagbon and therefore it is wrong for any gate to claim him as their own to the exclusion of others.

This was contained in a 12-point resolution signed by Alhaji Muta-Wakil Hamdu, President of the Congress, Hazia Sambila Mahama, General Secretary and Sheikh S.M Sibidow Coordinator of the Congress.

It said after studying the historical facts and evidence of March 2002 which exploded into the current Dagbon crisis, it had become clear that the conflicts had been instigated by agents of the two leading parties.

It said these political operatives had preyed on the ignorance of Dagombas in the Diaspora and gained so much at the expense of the integrity of Ya Na Yakubu and the Gbewaa Dynasty as a whole.

It noted that Gbewaa Palace was the property of Dagbon Traditional Council, indeed the whole Dagbon. “No family or clan can therefore claim ownership, much more monopolise its construction or occupancy,” it added.

It said whoever claimed to have led a so-called war againstYa Na Yakubu Andani under any guise or pretext must therefore go and kneel before Kuga Na and render apology and make atonement to purify the integrity of Dagbon, so as to save his clan from being sanctioned and even banished from participating in the Gbewaa Skin.

It said this was a non-negotiable requirement to set the tone for sustained peace and reconciliation in Dagbon.

The resolution said those who were fined for making false allegations against General Hamidu, Malik Alhassan Yakubu and others must also render apology before Kuga Na to enable Kuga Na prevail on General Hamidu and others to let the matter rest there.

It said in view of the repetition of lies, exclusion of others and crude handling of the funds which had left the construction of the so-called temporary palace at a disgraceful stage of only 30 per cent completion, it was also recommended that TAYSEC be contacted to complete the work with professional dispatch to make it, befit the name of “Gbewaa Palace”.

The resolution said in this connection, Dagombas everywhere as well as friends and sympathisers might send any donation direct to the Northern Regional Administration to complement the efforts of Otumfuo and not to any other person, group of people or body, so as to avoid unwittingly financing the political and subversive agenda of some people.

It called on resourced NGOs and international agencies ready to help broker resolution of the Dagbon crisis to stop wasting funds on sponsoring and organising expensive and unproductive meetings of Members of Parliament and other so-called stakeholders at hotels and luxurious locations, since such people had no role to play in the resolution of the crisis.

It called for the Kuga Na to be resourced to take over the upkeep of Na Yakubu’s widows immediately to relieve Hajj Sherif and few others of the burden currently being carried almost single-handedly.
