THE NATIONAL President of the Abudu Youth Wing of the Dagbon Chieftaincy divide, Alhaji Mugiisu Sibawey has challenged the youth of Dagbon to draw the attention of the Leaders of the two Royal Gates to the harm they were causing to their future.

According to him, Dagbon has suffered enough of conflicts and it was time they come together to iron out their differences and fight for development, which has eluded the people for some years now.

Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle in Tamale, Alhaji Mugiisu who blamed the numerous crises on politicians and some Chiefs of Dagbon challenging them to cope genuinely with the Otumfuo’s Committee of Eminent Chiefs to ensure the immediate continuation of the implementation of the peace roadmap.

He enumerated some the opportunities that have escaped the area as a result of the continued unrest in Dagbon. Several billions of cedis were spent annually by the government in ensuring security and order in Dagbon, which monies he said, could have been be channelled into education, health and agricultural development in the area.

Alhaji Mugiisu however, appealed to the government and the Otumfuo’s Committee to ensure that the funeral of the late Ya-Na Mahamadu Abdulai was performed to enhance peace and unity between Members of the two Gates.

It would be recalled that the Abudu Youth Wing at a press conference in Sunyani recently, called on Chief Imams, the Christian Council, National House of Chiefs and other civil society organisations engaged in peace building to assist the Otumfuo Committee to succeed in the implementation of the roadmap for peace to return to Dagbon.

They also initiated a move to reconcile with the Andani Youth to prevent any unforeseen conflicts in Dagbon.

In related development, the Women Group of the Progressive Association of Dagbon has called on President Kufuor and his government to impress upon the Otumfuo’s Committee of Eminent Chiefs to speed up the implementation of the peace roadmap.

According to the group, any further delay in the implementation of the roadmap would not only fuel the existing tension and mistrust among the people, but would also slow down development of the Dagbon state.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by Sumani Sulemana Damduu, Secretary and Madam Salifu Adiata, Women Organiser of the Progressive Citizen Association to commend the leadership of the Abudu Royal Youth Wing for making efforts to reconcile with the Andani Royal Youth, saying, “we must not allow chieftaincy to retard progress of Dagbon otherwise the generation unborn would blame us for causing harm to them”.

In response to this call by the Abudu Youth to reconcile with the Andanis, the Secretary of the Andani Royal Family, Mr. Andani Mahama largely welcomed the idea but insisted that no official letter had been extended to him or any of the leaders of the Andani Family by the Abudus.

He said Dagbon did not need peace that aimed at subverting the orderly implementation of the Dagbon peace roadmap. He was of the view that the move by their brothers from the Abudu gate was a calculated one to achieve their hidden aims but not a genuine one.

Mr. Andani Mahama therefore challenged them to come clear if they really meant to reconcile the youth of the two families.

Meanwhile, some leaders of the Dagbon have lauded the move by the leadership of the Abudu Youth Wing to unite the two Royal Gates.

Mr. Abass Salifu, the President of the Northern Regional League of Youth in one of his interviews with this reporter, appealed to the Andani youth to collaborate with the Abudu youth to bring peace to Dagbon.

He also cautioned unscrupulous politicians in Dagbon to desist from making capital gains out of the unfortunate situation.
