District Unemployment Rates Decline

The National Youth Employment Programme in the Kassena Nakana District has gained its grounds and is steadily declining the rate of unemployment in the district.

Currently, 3,083 youths in the district have registered to be part of the programme.

Speaking to ghanadistricts on the assessment of the programme in the district, the Planning Officer, Mr Collins Ohene Gyan described it as a succes, saying "the response so far has been encouraging giving hope that in the near future better results would be achieved.



He added that, the youths taking part in the various modules are performing well.
He indicated that 948 persons have registered as community education assistants, 371 as health extension workers and 273 as community protection unit.



Additionally, 996 have registered as waste and sanitation workers and 352 for the youth in agricultural programme.

Mr Ohene Gyan indicated that, out of the number 521 youths were currently at post.



The district has employed 193 community education assistants, 83 health extension workers, 70 community protection corps,76 waste and sanitation workers

He also mentioned that since the inception of the programme,the performance of the agric module has increased food production in the district adding that it has augmented the income of the people in the area as well.



According to him it has improved on the nutritional value of their food and enhanced their status.


Inspite of the sucesses chalked, the programme is faced with problems such as inadequte staff, transportation and delay in the release of funds.


He also indicated that since the staff were recruited, they had not undergone any capacity training to aid them in their work,and this may mar the suceess of the programme.
