Kanvili Eco-Tourism Organisation, a non-governmental organisation based in the Tamale metropolis, has built three-classroom block for Nangbagu Yapala, a farming community in the metropolis.

Handing over the keys of the block to the chief of the community, Mr. Alhassan Taju-Deen, project coordinator of the organisation, stressed that education was the only key to overcoming the high poverty situation in the area.

He, therefore, advised the people in the community to ensure that every school-going child was enrolled in the school.

Mr. Taju-Deen stated that there was no excuse any more for parents not to enroll their wards and children in school since the government was paying the fees for all children in public basic schools.

He said the organisation was mobved to provide the infrastructure for the community due to the dilapidated nature of the old school, which he described as a death trap.

"We looked at the bad state of the old infrastructure, coupled with high number of children that filled a classroom, and contacted Wilde Ganzen, a humanitarian organisation based in the Netherlands, which agreed to fund the project.

Chief Kpan-Naa Mahama B. Bawa, an assistant director of the Ghana Education Service of the Tamale metropolitan area, called on the community leaders to be interested in the running of the school by monitoring its progress to ensure quality teaching and learning.

He observed that often, parents only enrolled their wards in school without following up to see how the children were faring.

That, Chief Bawa said was not the best and therefore charged all parents and school managements to collaborate for effective output.

The chief of Nanbagu, Salifu Napari, who received the keys of the school on behalf of the people, thanked the organisation for the gesture and pledged his commitment to ensuring that the facility is well taken care off.
