AN INDEPENDENT inspection carried out by the Northern Regional Office of The Chronicle on how Ghana is preparing towards the CAN 2008 tournament has proven that the Tamale venue is indeed making some impressive progress.

Apart from the new Tamale Stadium which is about 90% complete, efforts are being made by both government and other private business entities in the provision of adequate and standardized hotel accommodations and services.

Most of the hotels are making expansion and refurbishing works to meet the required CAF standards. Currently, a five star Hotel is under construction by a private man, Alhaji Sumani Zakari of the Sumani Construction Company Ltd, which would greatly raise the image of Tamale higher and satisfy the desire of CAF, Local Organising Committee and Sport fans across Africa who would be making it to the tournament.

The about US$ 2million magnificent edifice containing 127 'self contain' rooms, is expected to be completed by December 15, 2007. The construction of the building has been awarded to three different construction firms.

It is envisaged to be named "Ghana Hotel" and expected to contain a five hundred capacity-seating conference hall, over hundred patrons underground restaurant, well secured car park, Internet cafe, four chalets, swimming pool, banking service and recreational centres.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and bankroller of "Ghana Hotel", Alhaji Sumani Zakari told this paper that he would make everything possible to ensure good hospitality for his potential clients and to also bring difference in the hotel industry in the Northern Region.

When completed, the Ghana Hotel would become the largest and leading hotel in the whole of the three Northern Regions.
