Mr. Kweku Tuoho Bombason, a level 300 student of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala Campus, has commended the National Executive Committee of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) for successfully negotiating for an acceptable interest rate on the New Student Loan Trust Fund. He said, "Aside all the challenges that came up during negotiations, the Committee had demonstrated exemplary leadership in arriving at and acceptable interest rate on the loan and they need commendation."

Mr. Bombason told the GNA in an interview in Tamale on Monday that students particularly those from the UDS, Nyankpala Campus, were happy with the current new loan trust, which had lessen the burden of looking for guarantors.

He commended all tertiary students for exercising patients for the negotiations to go on and appealed to students who might not be satisfied with the current loan agreement to exercise restraint since there could be future negotiations and adjustments.

Mr. Bombason advised students to play the watchdog role on the management of the Ghanaian economy, which had a direct bearing on the interest rates on the loan that they were benefiting.

He appealed to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust to expedite action on the processing of new loan forms to ease the burden on students who have waited for so long because of the time frame of negotiations.

Mr. Bombason also commended government for facilitating negotiations on the new loan scheme and that students would continue to cooperate with government to improve standards of living conditions of the people.
