The Nyimbali community in the Nadowli District has built a block of three classrooms for its primary school with the support of Sustainable Integrated Development Service Centre (SIDSEC), a child centred local non-governmental organization.

SIDSEC assisted the community with about 200 million cedis while the people provided sand, stone, water and labour.

Speaking at the inauguration of the building at Nyimbali The Assemblyman for the community, Dr Daniel Bagah, said the availability of a school in the village would stop their children from travelling to neighbouring communities to have access to formal education.

The Dean of the Faculty of Integrated Development Studies of the University of Development Studies, (Wa campus), Dr Bagah, said some children from the community got drowned in the recent past when crossing streams to attend school in other communities.

The Executive Secretary of SIDSEC, Dr Boye Bande, said the focus of his organization had been to increase access to quality basic education in the Nadowli District through the provision of furniture, textbooks, recreational equipment and foodstuffs for the school lunch programme.

He said Nyimbali was the latest addition to beneficiary communities that include Takpo, Nanvilli, Nator, Goli, Serepere, Duori and Somatigu.

He said their foreign donor, The Canadian Feed the Children (CFTC), was considering increasing support for its school-feeding programme.

SIDSEC also planned to support farming and micro-credit activities to empower community members economically to enrol and retain their children in school.

Wing Commander Eric Dakurah (RTD) who inaugurated the school block, urged parents to cut expenses on social activities and use money saved to educate their children

He cautioned the people against giving out money to people who are going round villages asking them to bring their money to be changed for them although the proposed redenomination of the cedi had not yet taken off.
