THE 39 million euro mixed credit facility from the Netherlands for the Wa water supply expansion project has been initialed in Accra.
Mr. Cobbie Kessie Jnr., Managing Director of Ghana Water Company signed for Ghana while Mr. Danny Mainoo, Coman Engineering and Contracting BV of the Netherlands representative in Ghana, initialed for his company.
Mr. Kessie Jnr. expressed pleasure that the long-awaited Wa water project was going to be undertaken to address the water shortages in the Wa Municipality.
On his part, Mr. Mainoo said his company with its state of the art technology, was prepared to undertake the job with perfection within the scheduled completion period to save the people from further hardships.
The Wa water project involves the construction of an intake on Black Volta, construction of a 15,000-metre cube per day water treatment plant, provision of transmission mains and distribution network improvement including storage.
The project, expected to meet the water demand in Wa and its environs up to 2025, will commence by the middle of the year and is to be completed within 18 months.
Currently, the source of water supply for the Wa Municipality is from a mechanised borehole, which is inadequate to cater for the needs of the people.
Therefore, the use of the Black Volta for water supply purposes was chosen as a better option to meet the present and future water demand of the Municipality.
