Calm has returned to Yendi after last week’s tension following the burning down of a house belonging to a member of the Andani Royal Gate. A source at the District Security Committee, confirmed to Times yesterday that residents were going about their business without fear or panic.

However, security personnel are patrolling the streets while security at the palaces of the Regent of Dagbon Kampakuya-Na Yakubu Abdulai Bonli-Lana, head of Abudus and the Kugu-Na has been beefed up, following a request by the Yendi District Security Committee.

The DISEC source said investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing.

Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, the Northern Regional Minister, told the Times that the Northern Regional Security Committee is in total support of the decision by the Yendi DISEC to intensify security patrols in the area.

"In fact, the REGSEC welcomes and supports the DISEC decision," he said, adding that security in Yendi should not be taken for granted and that every effort at ensuring peace in the area should be encouraged and supported.

He revealed that he was personally monitoring the situation in Yendi to ensure that the peace in the area was not disturbed in any way.

He commended members of Yendi DISEC for the timely intervention in bringing the situation under control and also lauded chiefs and leaders of the area for their cooperation with security agencies to maintain peace.
