The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu Abdullai has sent an early warning to all politicians and their political parties to spare Dagbon and mother Ghana with ethnic and tribal politics in the forthcoming 2008 electioneering campaign.

According to the Dagbon Regent, it would be suicidal for politicians to preach divisiveness, instead of adopting measures to enhance the well-being of the people.

This was contained in his New Year message issued to the press in Tamale.

Kampakuya-Naa entreated the political parties to consider the fragile peace in Dagbon contribute their quota to the peace building process in the area, by uniting the people and promoting development. He also challenged them to fight against ignorance and poverty, which he described as the main enemy of the people of Dagbon.

”My main message to the Chiefs and people of Dagbon is that all should endeavour to preach peace, exhibit peace and practice peace. We have only one common enemy in Dagbon and that is ignorance and poverty. All should discard violence, for violence never solve a problem, it rather worsens situations,” the Regent said.

He however extended his New Year greetings to the Chiefs and people of Dagbon, the government and all political parties in Ghana. Kampakuya-Naa sent special greetings to the security agencies in the region who contributed in diverse ways to restore peace and normalcy in Dagbon. He also commended the New Patriotic Party government for the numerous development projects given the area.

“The Year 2006 is gone, and we all have to reflect, look at what we have been able to achieve and what we could not achieve. Last year, Dagbon saw a lot of improvement with regards to peace.

The late King who lay in mortuary for more than four years was laid to rest and a Regent installed. Thanks to the able leadership of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs and all stakeholders. May God and the stools and skins of Dagbon guide them to accomplish the remaining aspect judiciously,” the Regent maintained.
