The Office of the Vice President has condemned the "desperate attempts" by sections of the media to link the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, to alleged illegalities committed by his son.

A press release issued in Accra and signed by Yaw B. Asamoah, Senior Aide to the Vice President, said: "Alhaji Mahama has demonstrated his belief in social order and the rule of law by painfully sacrificing filial love to publicly submit that his son be subjected to the full rigours of the law enforcement agencies".

"While we concede the right of the media to fair comment, we wish to condemn the desperate attempts to visit the sins of the son on the father," the release said, adding that the Vice President considered his son as an adult responsible for his actions.

It said further that the Vice President expects firm and fair action from the appropriate investigative agencies and added: "Those who try to negatively influence public officers are as culpable as those they try to influence."

The release said the vice president’s son might have gone wrong , "but the father has vindicated the rule of law by his plea to the relevant agencies to act accordingly."

"However, further stories by specific media houses aimed at attacking the integrity of the Vice President demands that we re-state that the hands of Aliu Mahama are entirely clean with respect to the acts alleged to have been committed by his son and no amount of scurrilous innuendo can alter that simple fact."
