THE Paramount Chief of the Gonja traditional area, Yagbunwura Abudu Bawa Doshie, has denied allegations of destooling and installing chiefs in the Nkoranza traditional area leveled against him by Nana Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom, paramount chief of Nkoranza.

He said the allegations were aimed at causing confusion and fomenting trouble between the peoples of the two areas.

"We wish to state categorically that this is a fabrication and that there is no iota of truth in the allegations. As far as the Gonja traditional council is aware, no Gonja has gone anywhere in the Nkoranza traditional area," the Yagbunwura stated at a press conference at his palace at Damongo on Saturday.

Destoolment or deskinment, he added has never been part of Gonjas and is uncommon in the traditional area as stated, "it is important to note that there are no armed bandits in Gonjaland and if any are found on the land they are certainly not Gonjas."

The Yagbunwura emphasized that Gonjas are peace-loving people and would never allow themselves to be dragged into conflicts.

He added that as king of the Gonjas, he has the right to receive allegiance and service from any Gonja anywhere in the world.

On Friday, October 6 the Times reported that two groups, the citizens of Nkoranza and Gonja settlers from the Northern Region were engaged in a dispute over the ownership of the Kintampo water falls and some stool lands.

At a press conference organized by the Nkoranza Traditional Council on Wednesday October 4, the Paramount Chief of Nkoranza, Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom IV said he had on many occasions complained to the Brong-Ahafo regional police command about attempts by the Gonjas to disturb the Public Order Act by unlawfully destooling Nkoranza chiefs and installing Gonja chiefs.

Subsequently, the two groups clashed last Wednesday resulting in the death of two people.
